CRL was established in 1955, beginning its journey in London with the Port of London Authority, where the company specialised in the repair of jetties and wharves along the River Thames. From these early marine works, CRL steadily expanded its capabilities and geographical reach, evolving into a national contractor delivering refurbishment and repair solutions to marine structures, power stations, and the UK’s road and rail infrastructure.

During the 1970s, CRL broadened its expertise to include the repair and refurbishment of buildings, further strengthening its position as a specialist in structural renewal. This continued growth led to a significant milestone in 1983, when CRL secured its first overseas contract in the Philippines, marking the beginning of its international operations.

Research and development have always been integral to CRL’s approach. Since the late 1980s, our commitment to R&D has driven the development of innovative repair techniques for corrosion control and structural strengthening. These advancements have enabled us to deliver more durable, efficient, and technically robust solutions for complex refurbishment challenges.

Today, this long-standing culture of innovation has shaped CRL into a multi-disciplined structural refurbishment specialist, operating from seven offices across the UK and one in Australia. Our history, combined with continual investment in research, people, and technology, underpins our ability to deliver trusted, high-quality solutions to critical infrastructure assets both in the UK and internationally.
