As part of CRL’s ongoing commitment to delivering meaningful social value, our Bristol team recently attended another Building Heroes workshop morning at the Salisbury Training Academy to support service leavers as they prepare for the transition from military life into civilian employment.

The session welcomed 12 attendees whose military careers ranged from 7 to 39 years of service, highlighting the depth of experience, resilience and transferable skills within the group. Recognising that moving from the armed forces into civilian careers can often be challenging, particularly when translating military expertise into commercial opportunities, CRL was proud to contribute to a programme designed to bridge that gap and support long-term employability.

During the session, Ben delivered an engaging and insightful presentation on CRL, providing attendees with an overview of the company, the specialist services we deliver, and the potential opportunities available within the construction and infrastructure sector. The presentation generated strong engagement from the group and encouraged meaningful discussion around how military skills such as leadership, teamwork, discipline, problem-solving and technical expertise can transfer successfully into industry roles.

Following the presentation, we spent time speaking with several attendees, including one individual who has proactively established his own welding company ahead of leaving military service in August. Based in the South West, he represents a strong example of entrepreneurship and forward planning, and although CRL’s requirement for on-site welding is relatively limited, we have already taken steps to support his transition by issuing the relevant forms to begin onboarding him as an approved subcontractor.

By maintaining contact and exploring future opportunities to work together, CRL is helping to support veteran employment, strengthen local supply chains and create meaningful pathways into sustainable careers for those leaving military service.
