The Mutton Lane Bridge over the M180, connecting Beltoft and Derrythorpe, faced severe damage after a lorry strike compromised a key beam. CRL was tasked with restoring the bridge, prioritizing safety and minimizing traffic disruption on this vital cargo route.
In collaboration with National Highways during the Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) phase, CRL carefully planned road closures, subcontractor selection, and work schedules.
Starting in January 2024, the project included lane reductions and safe-working zones on the M180. Following detailed surveys, the damaged beam was demolished and replaced with a 42-ton beam, with designs approved by Kier and safety validated by AES.
CRL engaged the local community, hiring local workers and collaborating with a nearby farmer to maintain site access, even improving their access track after completion. Watch to see how CRL combined engineering excellence with community care!
