St Peter Port Rehabilitation Case Study

Guernsey, one of the main Channel Islands located off the coast of Normandy, has a population of approximately 65,000. The marine berths are situated in the main town of St Peter Port and form a vital part of the island’s infrastructure. To ensure the berths remained in good working condition and to maintain this important asset, the port operators, the States of Guernsey, commissioned a review of Berths 4 and 6. As part of the overall refurbishment, it was recommended that the reinforced concrete be repaired, an impressed current cathodic protection (ICCP) system installed to prevent reinforcement corrosion, and the concrete encasement on the steel beams and columns removed and replaced.

The presentation, St Peter Port Rehabilitation Case Study, details the planning and decision-making processes behind the works, the technical support employed, and the logistical challenges of executing the project under tidal conditions in an active port. It covers the various stages of the project, including the installation of access platforms, the concrete repair process, the installation of ICCP and galvanic protection systems, and the refurbishment of fendering.
