Nuclear & Power Membranes Structural Strengthening Grouting & Injection ECI (Early Contractor Involvement) Projects

CRL has been actively supporting the UK and Irish wind energy sector for the past eight years, delivering specialist structural repairs and maintenance to onshore wind turbine installations.

This work has addressed a wide range of challenges, from new turbine grouting to stabilisation of existing turbines exhibiting excessive movement, as well as concrete repairs to gravity bases and waterproofing of turbine interfaces.

With over 800 turbine projects completed for major manufacturers including Vestas, Siemens, Nordex, and Gamesa, CRL has established itself as a trusted partner in the rapidly growing renewable energy market. The work ensures turbine reliability, operational safety, and extended service life, helping clients achieve their sustainability and energy-generation goals.

Services undertaken

  • Grouting works on new turbine installations

  • Structural assessment of existing turbines

  • Stabilisation of turbines exhibiting excessive movement

  • Concrete repairs to gravity bases

  • Planning and execution of works to minimise turbine downtime

Tailored tools for every job

CRL’s approach combines innovative techniques with traditional repair methods, adapted to the unique demands of wind turbine structures. For new installations, grouting works are carefully executed to ensure precise alignment and load transfer between tower and foundation. On older turbines, structural assessments identify instability or excessive movement, prompting stabilisation through deep resin injection and reinforcement of compromised concrete bases. Voids within gravity bases are injected with high-strength resin, while the base-to-tower interface is treated with advanced waterproofing systems to prevent water ingress and potential corrosion.

All works are tailored to the specific turbine type and site conditions, requiring bespoke equipment, safety systems, and sequencing to minimise downtime and maintain operational continuity. CRL also continually develops new methods from first principles, responding to novel issues that do not conform to standard construction defect patterns, ensuring reliability across a diverse range of turbine designs. This expertise positions CRL as a leader in structural repairs UK for the renewable energy sector.

“Over eight years, CRL has consistently delivered innovative, reliable solutions to wind farm operators. The works which we carry out ensures the turbines remain stable, fully operational, and future-proofed.”

Beyond the immediate repairs, CRL’s interventions provide long-term resilience and reduced maintenance demands, ensuring that turbines remain structurally sound and operationally efficient. Comprehensive grouting, resin injection, and waterproofing protect critical load-bearing areas against deterioration, while stabilisation works prevent excessive movement that could compromise performance.

Close collaboration with turbine operators ensures that repair strategies are compatible with ongoing energy generation, maintaining operational continuity. CRL’s proactive, innovative approach enhances asset management, supports sustainability goals, and extends turbine service life, demonstrating the company’s capability to deliver technically complex solutions safely and efficiently in the renewable energy sector.
