During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, CRL successfully delivered the structural refurbishment of the main mine-shaft building at Boulby Mine in North Yorkshire, one of the few construction projects to continue operating at the time. Appointed as Principal Contractor, CRL implemented innovative, engineering-led repair solutions that allowed the UK’s deepest mine to remain fully operational throughout the works.
This case study outlines the technical challenges, bespoke access solutions, and sustainable refurbishment techniques adopted, while demonstrating how repair over replacement delivered significant cost efficiencies and achieved substantial carbon emission savings for the client.
